As many of you may know, the entire JWES had the opportunity to watch a movie that they had been reading in class, "The Wild Robot". However, this movie day looked a little different than the rest. Instead of getting comfy on the classroom floor or at their desks, students filled up two huge busses and took a trip to Theatre Atchison in Atchison, KS! Upon arrival, the students received a caffeine free soda, popcorn, and fruit snack to enjoy during the viewing.
The Wild Robot's synopsis is described: "After a shipwreck, an intelligent robot called Roz is stranded on an uninhabited island. To survive the harsh environment, Roz bonds with the island's animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose." according to IMDb.
Fortunately, we had the ability to split the experience into two separate outings. For the first outing, several leaders took the 2nd - 4th graders, while the second outing consisted of Kindergarten through 1st grade. Everybody made it back in time for lunch and more learning after the movie. A HUGE Tiger thank you to Theatre Atchison for being accommodating and making our staff and students feel welcome and comfortable. We hope to visit you again, soon!
Later in the year, we will be diving into the second part of "The Wild Robot" series for One Book, One Community. Stay tuned!
