KSHSAA to Honor Veterans and Active Military with Free Admission to Sectional Football Games
TOPEKA, Kan. – The students in the member schools of the Kansas State High School Activities Association benefit from the privilege of participating in high school activities. This is possible due to the result of the hard work and sacrifice of many, including those who defend our freedom through military service. In honor of those veterans and active military men and women, the KSHSAA is pleased to provide complimentary admission to all Sectional Championship football games to be played on November 9th and 10th. Active military, veterans, and one guest are invited to watch Kansas student-athletes participating in playoff football at no charge.
“This is just one small way we can say ‘thank you’ and help recognize those in communities around the state at one of our biggest community events - playoff football,” said Bill Faflick. “Our goal is to honor those who are serving and those who have served, recognizing we can never fully repay the sacrifice made by those who protect our country and our freedom.”
Sectional football may take place either Thursday or Friday based on facility availability. Host schools may also honor veterans/active military in other ways on gameday.
Any active military or veteran and one guest will be admitted free of charge, simply by showing their driver’s license, which has a seal indicating the person is a veteran and signifying service. If the individual has not renewed their license in the last couple of years, a veteran ID card or any proof of identification is acceptable.

The FFA group is on their way home! Yesterday was a day of FFA. They went to session and the Expo. Several talked to KSU reps and picked up some more free stuff. The last picture is of the trip home. They left the hotel at 7am EST and are headed home. Maybe a couple stops and they will be home early evening. Students have been great and the trip has been a whirlwind. Safe travels!!
Before registering at the National Scholastic Journalism/Journalism Education Association convention, the Quill and Scroll group got up early to take a train to Salem. While there, the students visited historical sites and also visited locations from the movie Hocus Pocus. There is a lot of commercialization there, but there is also an incredible amount of history. The “witch house” is actually the home of one of the judges from the Salem Witch Trials. The judge inhabited the house for 40 years, and the house still stands from the 1600s. The Salem Witch Museum has the original header beam from the 1692 trials. Looks like they are experiencing the same cold weather we have been having. Glad they went prepared!
Get those hammies stretched out! Only 3 weeks away! Our Jefferson West Education Foundation goal to give out in grants this year is $5,000, so everything we raise will help us create more opportunities for our Jefferson West Teachers and Jeff West Students. This is our last event of the year before we start the application process. We would be honored to have corporate sponsors or individual donations to help us reach our goal! If you are interested, please contact Derek Helton. For corporate sponsors, we will put your business logo on our shirts and you will also receive a Turkey Bowl Shirt! https://www.facebook.com/events/1056049502242758?ref=newsfeed #HeedTheRoar

A little magic happened yesterday in Mrs. Abbott's culinary class as the students made biscuits and gravy during our fourth hour class.
Some Journalism students left for Boston on Monday to attend the national convention. The first night there, they walked the Freedom Trail. Among the highlights on the trail were the Old North Church, the Paul Revere House, and the Old State House. They stopped to eat at the market at Faneuil Hall - the “Cradle of Freedom,” where Revolutionary-era meetings and protests took place.
Be sure to turn your clocks BACK one hour Saturday night.
Our FFA organization is attending the National FFA convention in Indianapolis this week. Here are some pictures from their educational tours during the first two days of the trip.
Congratulations to Aubrey Philips on a great showing at State Cross Country. She placed 29th out of 99 runners with a time of 21:12:23. Great job Aubrey!!!!
