Jefferson West FCCLA members had a gift exchange December 11th, followed by gift wrapping items as gifts for our 8 children from our Adopt-a-Child for the Holidays. Tomorrow they will drop them off to the Meriden Methodist Church to spread some Christmas cheer.

Winter Break for Washburn Tech students begins on Thursday 12/12. If you do NOT want to eat lunch that day, Friday 12/13, Monday 12/16, or Tuesday 12/17, you must arrive and be in class no later than 12Noon. Finals schedule, 12/18 through 12/20, will be announced.

Thank you to the 11 FCCLA members who designed, created and imagined an amazing 50th Winter Formal Dance called Rainforest Fantasy. The last pics show all of the amazing decorations. A special thank you to the carpet rolls donated to us by Murray Floor Covering for the amazingly crafted palm trees our members put together. Braxdon Penry provided entertainment to kick off the evening with his singing and guitar playing of “Dancing in the Sky”. Thank you to Jay Diamond who DJ’d the dance. Thank you also to our administrators Rhonda Frakes and Matt Stapp, along with staff Michael Spangler, Mark Farr and Staci Wittenberg for chaperoning and your support. A huge thank you to custodial and maintenance staff members Tim Roberts, Dallas Davis and Sammy Mowder who helped with supervising, setup and take down. Thank you to Emily Dodds and Caroline Davis for setting up and providing the service at our food and beverage table. Thank you to our additional middle school members who assisted in setup Friday evening. Thank you to Erin Schuster, Brian Abbott, Naomi Fawl and Lucas Kirkwood for helping with set up and to other family members and friends who will be assisting with cleanup and storage today.
Jefferson West wrestlers opened their competitive season on Thursday night at Perry-Lecompton in a mixer which included Oskaloosa, Horton, and Silver Lake. The girls team went 9-7 on the night, while the boys went 15-12. Going undefeated on the evening were Sophie Waters, Payge Vetsch, Lucy Henderson, Kaden Wuellner, Jackson DaSilva, Jesus Holguin, and Osiris Unruh. TIGER ROAR!!
Dissection week started out great for Mrs. Magill's students. This dissection is the culmination of the fall semester to go over all they have learned to this point in Anatomy class. Not for the squeamish!
First Aid week ended with Stop the Bleed training from Jefferson County Emergency Management, with Keith Jeffers. Students learned life saving techniques with compression and tourniquets. This event was organized by our health and human science teacher, Mrs. Stephanie Magill. District nurse, Abby Martin, was also on hand during the event. Way to go Tigers!
Forty-five of the best high school anglers from across the country have been named to the 2024 Bassmaster High School All-State Fishing Team. Jefferson West High School brothers Kyle Herrman and Nicholas Herrman made the team! Congratulations and a HUGE TIGER ROAR!!
