Congratulations to Senior Sydney Thompson! Sydney was selected as the WIBW Kaw Valley Bank and Cable Dahmer Scholar Athlete of the Week. She plays volleyball, golf, and runs track for the Tigers, and recently placed 14th in State Girls' Golf. She’s a member of Spanish Club, SADD, FCCLA, FCA and National Honor Society. FFA continues to have full days at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. Their day started with the FFA shopping mall and the Expo. There are 500ish businesses, colleges and activities for the students to check out. We had a great motivational speaker at our opening session and ended the evening with a rodeo. A little magic happened yesterday in Mrs. Abbott's culinary class as the students made biscuits and gravy during our fourth hour class.

Some Journalism students left for Boston on Monday to attend the national convention. The first night there, they walked the Freedom Trail. Among the highlights on the trail were the Old North Church, the Paul Revere House, and the Old State House. They stopped to eat at the market at Faneuil Hall - the “Cradle of Freedom,” where Revolutionary-era meetings and protests took place.

Aubrey Phillips, a junior at Jefferson West High School, has qualified to represent our district at the State Cross Country competition at Rim Rock on Saturday, October 28th. Kansas's first Apply Free Days will be held at Jefferson West High School on Thursday, November 9th, 2023, for Kansas residents! Any Kansas resident, regardless of age or income can apply for free at any of our 7 public universities, 19 community colleges, 6 Technical colleges, and the 21 private member institutions of the Kansas Independent College Association. Eligible programs include general applications, certificate programs, associate degree programs and bachelor degree programs.
